In loving memory ~
Arthur "Sidney" Noel, beloved husband, father, mechanic extraordinaire, and conversationalist of unparalleled skill, passed away peacefully on November 20th, 2024, at the age of 84. Born in Davy, St Patrick, Grenada, to Amelia Edwin Noel and Linus Noel, Art lived a life full of grease- stained overalls, family love, and enough stories about himself to fill a dozen books—though he'd probably talk your ear off before you ever got to read them.
Art's journey began working as a mechanic at Gleans Duchams Oil in Sauters, Grenada. He continued his journey to England where he refined his skills for mechanics in the back alleys of England. An opportunity to come to Canada allowed him to build the business of Artcliffe Motors Ltd. in Trail, BC, which he ran for over 35 years. Those who knew Art will remember his shop as not just a place for car repairs, but a sanctuary for anyone who enjoyed a good chat.
Along with his brother Oscar, Art also co-founded the legendary "Hole in the Wall" bar in Grenada, proving that whether in the garage or the kitchen, he had an uncanny ability to turn anything into a family affair.
Art's love for cars was only rivalled by his love of talking. The man could spend hours under the hood of a vehicle, hands covered in grease, while simultaneously running an impromptu seminar on engine repairs, life philosophy, and his many honours. If you ever visited Artcliffe Motors, you knew one thing for sure: you weren't just getting your car fixed—you were getting an education, a good laugh, and probably some unsolicited advice on how to improve your life.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Yvonne Theodora Kingston Noel, who made his life in Grenada the blessing it was. Although this relationship happened later in life, it was one that fulfilled, sustained and created the life he so cherished in Grenada.
Art was surrounded by his extended family, friends, colleagues and former partners proving that the power of forgiveness is really all that life is about and bore fruit in his final years. Art is also survived by his children: Solange Logie, Peter Noel, Sharon Otway, Andrea Noel, Jason Noel, and Andrew Noel. He was the proud grandfather of Shaka, Mikel, Kesi, Kishi, Somayeh, Tia, Alanna, Jackson, Summer, and Parker and great-grandfather to Shakayla, Zane, Aziel, and Micah. He also leaves behind his sister Edna Edwards, and many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him as the uncle who was always willing to fix your car.
Art was preceded in death by his siblings: Magna Noel Andall, Neville Attiene, Oscar Noel, Adulyn Noel, Cletus Noel, and Clecy Noel Stewart.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, from 2:30-4 PM at Clark's Funeral Home, 1298 Pine Ave, Trail, BC.
The family would also like to thank the wonderful caring staff of Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Medical floor and ICU as well as the Kelowna General Hospital Cardiac Care Centre.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you take a moment to think of Art while fixing something —anything. Whether it's your car or your leaky faucet. Art would approve. Period.
