July 5, 2024

In loving memory ~

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Joan Hamilton, who left us on July 5, 2024 after a courageous battle with leukemia (AML). Born in Vernon, BC in 1941, Barbara grew up in Kerrisdale, Vancouver, BC. She graduated from Magee high school in 1959 and then from UBC in 1963 with a Bachelor of Education. Thereafter she sought some adventure and moved to the West Kootenays where she met her husband and took up her profession as a teacher. This perfectly suited her nurturing spirit and passion for education. After moving to Rossland, BC and having a family, her meaningful work at the Infant Development Centre and volunteering for Meals on Wheels made a lasting impact on the community. Barbara was a woman of remarkable spirit and sharp mind. She faced every challenge head on yet always maintained her sense of humour and infectious smile. She loved to travel - spending summers at Keats Island, working at the Seattle World's Fair, exploring Europe, and enjoying destinations like Mexico and Hawaii. Barbara also cherished her time with friends and family, especially at Christina Lake where many happy memories were made being out on a boat or cooking up a feast (as long as someone would help her with the dishes). In the winter, she would often be found around Rossland Black Jack Ski Club, attending keep fit classes, or eating excellent food with the Dinner Club. Married for over 50 years, Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hugh Sr. She will be forever remembered by her children, Hugh and Rhea (Mike), her grandchildren Sebastian and Zachary, her sister Marion, and numerous nieces and cousins. In memory of Barbara's life, donations can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada at their website https://www.bloodcancers.ca or the Alberta Cancer Foundation at their website https://albertacancer.ca. You are invited to email her children directly at barbarajham@gmail.com or leave a personal message of condolence to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
