January 13, 1933 - June 30, 2020
The family of Carl Lepine is sad to announce his passing after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carl was born in St. Louis, Saskatchewan on the family farm, where he grew up with 6 siblings in a French-Metis community. Carl's great- grandfather, Maxime, fought alongside Louis Riel, in the Historical North West Rebellion of 1885.
Carl moved to Kamloops, BC for work in 1952, and after a brief stint as a cowboy, he followed many of his family, friends, and relatives to Trail to work "up the Hill", and marry his first life partner Grace Anges Cook in 1953.
After his retirement and the passing of Grace in 2001, Carl was very fortunate to marry his second life partner Helen Gaskell in 2007.
Carl excelled at curling, winning many area bonspiels and club championships. His passion was the outdoors. All his life he could be encountered out fishing, hunting, picking berries, asparagus or whatever was in season. To call Carl a good hunter would be like saying, Wayne Gretzky played some hockey, or Muhamad Ali threw the odd punch. To quote Carl's nephew Lynn, "Uncle Carl could shoot an Elk in New York City!"
He was the consummate host and could make friends anywhere with anyone. He always ensured your glass was full, you had enough to eat, take home some sausages, and how about a jar of canned Kokanee!
The hunting season ending parties in the "Flathead" will never be matched.
Carl was predeceased by his wife Grace, his daughter Brenda and his great-grand daughter Baby Jordyn, as well as many of his siblings and in-laws.
Carl is survived by his wife Helen, sons Gary and Les (Rhoda), his son-in-law Phil Knippelberg, his sister Eugenie Healey, Helen's children Susan (Ron), Donald (Tessie) and Michael (Colleen), nine grandchildren, uncountable great- grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at KBRH, the Greater Trail Hospice Society and the Canadian Red Cross.
Due to Covid 19, a private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, with Father Francis dela Cruz, Celebrant. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation ServicesTM has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Carl's name may be made to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
