Apr 30, 1937 - Feb 1, 2018
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, Nonna and Bisnonna, Caterina (Cathy) Caligiuri. She passed away peacefully at the age of 80, at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital on February 1, surrounded by her husband and three daughters.

Born on April 30, 1937 in Bocchigliero Italy, she was one of seven children. At age 21, she was the only sibling in her family to immigrate to Canada to start a life with her new husband and soon began to lovingly care for her young family.

Nonna had a genuine warmness and love for people, always giving to others. Her home was always open to friends and family and she was known to whip up gourmet meals that could feed a crowd at a moment's notice. She was a talented seamstress and tailor, and worked for several prominent retailers in Trail. She was a long-standing member of the CWL and Sisters of Colombo.

The loves of her life were her five grandchildren and great grandson. Nonna was active in their upbringing and took great pride in babysitting, sewing, cooking, baking, attending sporting events and school functions, just to name a few.

She loved spending time with her family at their summer home on Christina Lake. Guests were always welcome and usually treated to one of her famous feasts.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Raffaele (Ralph); daughters Debbie Melnyk, Nancy (Jason) Startup, Anna (James) Ferraro, grandchildren Jessica (Ryan) McCreight, Kristina Melnyk, Dean, Alexandra and Vanessa Ferraro and great grandson Jacob McCreight.

She is also survived by her sister Rosina, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. She was predeceased by her parents and five of her siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish Trail, with Father Francis dela Cruz, Celebrant. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
