Concettina Cocchia (nee Romano) was born July 25th, 1936 in Santo Stefano del Sole, Italy. In 1958 she married Pasquale from the same town and emigrated to Canada, building a life together that spanned over 66 years of marriage with 5 children and countless family dinners and celebrations. Pasquale passed away in June of last year following declining health during which he was cared for by Concettina. It was not lost on Pasquale how lucky he was to have her and he made sure to always tell us all that she was his angel. While the family is grieving both of these losses, we find comfort knowing they are together again.
Concettina loved roses, stitched beautiful quilts, collected thimbles from her and her family's travels across the world, made the most delicious meals and was always excited to chat over coffee and cookies. Her warmth for those she loved was ever present and she kept friendships across decades both in Canada and Italy. She passed down traditions, stories, and family recipes that kept her connection to Italy alive. The level of devotion her children, and then grandchildren and great-grandchildren felt for her throughout her life is a testament to her distinctness as mother, nonna and bisnonna (affectionately known as Mammancetta, a name she used for her own Nonna).
She is survived by her children and their spouses Anita & Michael, Sergio & Wendy, Mario & Liz, Susanna & Rocky, and Johnny & Deanna, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A service will be held to celebrate Concettina's life at Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, April 24th, 2025.
