April 25, 1938 - March 18, 2025
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of "Dave", David Irving Hinchcliffe; he passed peacefully in his home on March 18, 2025.
Born to parents Edward and Dorothy Hinchcliffe, on April 25, 1938 in Trail, B.C. Dave grew up in Warfield, his first job at the Warfield Gas Station. From there, he joined West Kootenay Power Company where he served his apprenticeship for mechanics, graduating on April 27th, 1962. He proudly dedicated 33 years to the company, moving up the ranks and being recognized for his contributions with two prestigious Presidents Awards for "innovative thinking" and "significant money saving initiates". At the top of his career, he retired as the Superintendent of Fleet Services.
He married Linda Petroni on Feb 27, 1960; they built a house in Rossland and started a family. In July 1968, they purchase a hobby farm and moved to the Paterson Valley to raise their three children. Dave enjoyed family life, creating many happy memories with family & friends while working hard and excelling at everything he did; rebuilding the family home, raising livestock, working hard and having fun...cattle drives, trail rides, camping, boating and snowmobiling. After tragically losing his wife in 1981, he found a way to move on.
He remarried in 1982 and when Dave retired in 1995, he and Treva moved to Salt Spring Island. Dave had an eye for finding beautiful parcels of land and a vision for building fabulous homes, maximizing the views and natural beauty of the landscape. On Salt Spring, he designed and built two homes; living there for over 20 years before moving to Saltair on Vancouver Island. In late 2023, tired of island life, they moved to their final home in Okanagan Falls B.C.
Dave always had a love and appreciation for old cars and was fortunate to own one of his dream cars, a 68' Mercedes 280sl convertible. He enjoyed countless hours cruising around in it with his best friend Buddy, a golden lab proudly riding by his side. He loved travelling and spending time with family; many, many hours were shared around the table playing Rummikub and various card games.
Dave built many long-lasting relationships throughout his life; he was loved and respected by all those he touched. He always had a good ear for listening and was eager to guide and help people strive to be their best in life. Dave will always be loved and greatly missed.
