September 3, 1925 - August 23, 2021
Mom passed away peacefully at The Hamlets at Penticton August 23,2021, 11 days shy of her 96th birthday. She was born Sept 3 1925 in Simpson Sask and spent her early childhood years on the family homestead in Sask and Alberta.
After moving to Vancouver and completing her teachers certificate at The Vancouver Normal School she taught primary school in central British Columbia and the Lower Mainland.
At the age of 21 she ventured alone to Dawson City Yukon where she taught grades 1 and 2 for 2 years. While there she met Maurice Carswell and they were married in December 1948. They remained in the Yukon until 1965 before moving to Trail.
Mom taught primary grades at Glenmerry Elementary School for many years and was an active member of The United Church and The Order of The Eastern Star.
In 2013 she moved to Penticton to be closer to family.
She was predeceased by her husband Maurice in 2000. She is survived by her daughters Sharon (Jack) Bettger of Penticton and Beverly (John) Veenstra of Pittsford NY as well as 4 grandchildren : Aaron Bettger, Michael (Chelsea) Bettger. Tawnya (Christopher) Drumm and Shawn (Jamie) Veenstra.
She was also a loving GG to James and Garnet Bettger and Brendon and Kyla Drumm.
The family would like to thank Dr Mark Lawrie and the staff at The Hamlets for the care and compassion shown to mom.
Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID travel restrictions a celebration of moms life will take place at a later date.
