It's hard to say goodbye.
Our dad, Doug, was born in England and settled in Victoria with his father Horace, mother Gladys and sister Kathy (who all predeceased him). Upon graduation, he worked for the Bank of Montreal where he soon met mom, Jeanette, the love of his life. Dad left the bank to work at Cominco in Trail. The small family - dad, mom, #1 son Don and Chrissy (Blake) moved to their little piece of paradise in Montrose. Soon the family grew with the arrival of Michelle (Justin) and ... "baby" Cher (Rick)! Our nightly sessions of dog piling, nose flicking, and momma cow - baby cow interrupted poor dad trying to read the newspaper or watch TV. Sorry, dad!
Despite being a busy family man, dad dedicated a great deal of time to his community. We are so proud of dad for being a coach, alderman, treasurer of both the Champion Lakes Golf Club and the Beaver Valley Lions Club. Dad was a man of few words; but he enjoyed being social and made many of his friends through volunteer work, golfing, curling and traveling.
We all have such great memories of our month long family camping trips. After we had grown, dad and sidekick mom RV'd across Canada and throughout the US. They loved their many trips to Hawaii and Guayabitos, Mexico.
Mom strongly suggested they try 2-step dancing. Despite his misgivings, dad was a quick learner and a great partner. Dad enjoyed live performances, concerts and traveling to music festivals with mom at his side.
We are so grateful to dad, and backseat driver mom, for regularly trekking to the coast to visit us kids and the grand kids who love him very much: Nic, Mac, Steven, Nathan, Jaime, Emily and Julia.

A small family gathering to celebrate Dad's life was held on Oct 16th at CLGCC, one of Dad's favorite places. Mom would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts.
