On April 10, 2020, Doug passed away after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. He fought hard like the big, strong Doug we all knew, but ultimately, it was a fight he could not win. Rest now Dad, you've earned it.
Doug is survived by his wife Gail, his daughters Gayle Seifrit, and Cheryl Isernia (Luigi), sisters Carol Barclay, Dorothy Beleznay (Steve), brother Alan Barclay (Deb) and daughter-in-law Tracy Mervyn. He was predeceased by his son Glenn, sister Barbara (Mervyn) Medwid, father William (Bill) Mervyn, mother Grace Barclay and step-father Duncan Barclay. Doug is survived by his stepchildren Dawn Gordon (Gord), Glenn Mitchell (Carla), and Scott Mitchell. Doug leaves six grandchildren, Chelyse (Ryan) and Seth (Alex) Seifrit, Stephanie and Brandon (Alex) Mervyn, Kassidy and Sam Mitchell and two great grandchildren, Beau and Lily Mervyn.
Doug grew up and lived in Fruitvale his entire life. He was a family first guy, hard worker and excellent provider. Doug took immense pleasure in being behind the wheel, and he loved to play cards. Hope he's now driving his heart out and holding a "29" hand! Doug also loved to play guitar and sing around the campfire for his family and friends. He was often accompanied by fellow band members Dennis, Al and Gordie.
Doug can now be reunited with his father, whom he lost as a child and his son, two people he missed dearly.
