It is with great sadness that we announce Edna's passing in her 97th year. When reading this some may ask why it would take so long to publish an obituary. The answer is simple, we were not ready.

As you can imagine; Edna was predeceased by almost everyone; her Parents Gertrude and Joseph, husband Robert Clifton Watson (Bob), her son David, her sister Agnes, her niece Sally, her good friend Diane and a parade of pets. She is survived by her sister Dorothy, daughters Penny and Gloria (Vern), and granddaughter Kirstin (Keith), and many nieces and nephews throughout the Kootenays.

Edna was raised on a farm in Shoal Lake MN. She was the youngest in her class and thrilled to play Rosebud in her school play and never forgot the "Beautiful" costume her wonderful teacher "Miss M" had (imported from Winnipeg) for her to wear. While attending Brandon Collegiate Institute she saw King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on their Canadian visit in 1939.

In 1942 Edna joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps. as a Corporal and served in the medical unit. She believed she was the last surviving member of Company "K".

In 1944 she met and married Bob and moved to Trail BC where they raised their children Gloria, David and Penny. Other than the neighbourhood "stitch and bitch club", her first job in Trail was making custom draperies with her sister-in-law Muriel for Gordon Wall and later worked at Columbia Fabrics for a number of years.

She made many lifelong friends in Trail; Leona, Helen, Kaye, Diane, Noni, Kore Anne and Bob. "A good time was had by all."

After her retirement, (in her 80's) she volunteered on election day, and then at the local Poplar Ridge Pavilion helping with games and social activities. For years she was a regular contributor to the craft market scene.

Edna loved to travel and visited Paris, Egypt, and Venice (via Las Vegas), Disneyland , Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and Kelowna for the wine tours and even returned to Shoal Lake in 1985 for the 100th Anniversary of the Eastcott farm. In 2011 she moved to Calgary to be closer to her family.

She was always dressed, makeup on and ready to go in the blink of an eye if there was the possibility of an outing.

Edna was an avid reader, kept a beautiful home and garden, loved the theatre, shopping, crafting, fabric works, baking, and politics which she used as her own special version of cardio.

She had a great sense of humour, wonderful taste, and she was often described as the energizer bunny.

She had a thing for the color pink, never met a shoe she didn't like and always believed that there was room for ice cream, especially Maple Walnut.

So, to say that she was a little old lady who went quietly into the night would be false. She fought leaving with everything she had and as a result we were not ready... but to quote Grandma's last bit of advise: "you'll get over it".

Here's to a life well lived!

Thank you for everything Mom, Grandma, GM.

Thank you for the phone calls, cards, and flowers. A memorial tree has been planted by Batesville as part of the Living Memorial Program.
