April 27, 1928 – July 8, 2020
The family of Edward Francis Godfrey Milner are saddened to announce his passing on July 8, 2020 at the age of 92.
Dad was born on April 27, 1928 in Madhya Pradesh state, India to Edward and Kathleen Milner. Dad spent his childhood and teenage years in India before returning to England when the family relocated. He attended the University of Bristol and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Pyrometallurgical Engineering. Following university Dad entered the military to complete his compulsory service. He served in The Royal Corps of Signallers in communications and was stationed in Hong Kong. Upon returning to England he began his career in engineering. Dad met and married Teresa Turton in 1955.
They welcomed their first child in 1956, and emigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Trail, BC. They had their second child in 1959 before moving to the family home in Warfield in 1964. Their third and fourth children were born in 1965 and 1971. Dad retired from Cominco in 1988 following an acclaimed 31 year career in Research that saw him working on myriad projects both in Trail and around the world. Both Mum and Dad gave freely of their time as volunteers with the church and community organizations. Mum and Dad both loved singing and were members of many choirs and were avid readers.
Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Tess in 2016. He is survived by his sisters Maggie (Charlie), Rita (Peter), and June (Ken); his children Susan (James), Stephen (Sandy), Andrew (Wendy) and Genevieve (Richard); his grandchildren Chris, Jake, Adam, Kathryn (Darcy), Edward, Sam and Molly; and great-grandchildren Domanick, Lily, Serena and Daisy.
A Mass of Christian Burial with family in attendance has taken place with Father John Kellogg officiating. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services was entrusted with Dad’s final arrangements.
