It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen McCannel at the age of 93 years on April 15, 2011 in her home at the Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna. With gratitude in our hearts, we remember Eileen’s gentle, loving spirit and her quick and ready smile. Born on March 30, 1918 and raised in Saskatchewan, she married her school sweetheart, Archie, in 1940. They shared seventy happy years together, laughing, dancing and taking good care of each other. They lived most of their married lives in Trail, BC where they were active members of the sports community. They made many good friends through golfing and curling over the years. Eileen played third on Lil Lyon’s team that won the BC Ladies Curling Championship in 1954. She enjoyed playing bridge for many years as well as her volunteer work at the Trail Hospital. So it was with mixed feelings about leaving Trail friends when they moved to Kelowna in 1996 to be closer to family. They embraced life in Kelowna and especially enjoyed time spent as volunteers at the David Lloyd Jones Home. Eileen will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She is predeceased by her husband Archie, her brothers, Alex, Cecil, Reg and Gerald Robinson and her sister Helen Ferguson and Beverley Fraser. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Nistor (Bud), her grandson Craig Nistor (Ronda) her granddaughter Jennifer Neal (Rob) , her great grandsons Charlie, Jake, Riley, Bradley and Brodie and her great granddaughter, Kinsey. She is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews and sister –in-law. The family would like to express gratitude for the loving care Eileen and Archie received from the staff at Smith Creek. A memorial service will be held at Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1910 Windsor Road. In Kelowna on Saturday April 23, 2011 at 2:00pm with Rev Dr. Lorna Hillian officiating . Interment will follow at a later date in Trail BC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Eileen’s memory to The Village at Smith Creek 2425 Orlin Rd, West Kelowna, BC V4T 3C7 or the David Lloyd Jones Home 934 Bernard Ave Kelowna, BC V1Y 6P8.
