In loving memory ~
Elizabeth was born January 1928 in Calgary to Irish immigrants. She had a happy childhood with her parents Hugh and Annie Clow and her brother Jim.
Elizabeth was studying Sciences at U of A when she met her future husband Robert Lewis (Bob) at a New Years Eve party. Bob was immediately smitten with the beautiful, talented Elizabeth who was entertaining the guests by playing Chopin Polonaises. Sadly she contracted Polio in her final year of university.
Following a lengthy hospitalization due to paralysis of her arms and back, Elizabeth rehabilitated herself by sitting at the piano "willing her fingers to move". She recovered and Bob and Liz were married in 1949. They moved to Trail where Bob worked as a Chemical Engineer at Cominco.
Liz resumed her piano studies and completed an ARCT in Performance and Teaching. She was an active member of the BC Registered Music Teachers for many decades and taught countless students. After 25 years of marriage she returned to university to complete her undergrad degree and teaching certificate. In addition to her piano teaching Liz worked for Selkirk College in their early childhood music program. Elizabeth enjoyed living in Warfield for 60 + years with Bob. They were married for 70 years.
She was a gifted pianist who continued to play music until her last year of life. She was mathematically minded and a Scrabble genius. Elizabeth had an abiding faith in God.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Maureen Lewis (Jim Hughes), 5 grand daughters: Rachel, Esther, Kate, Joy Beamish, and Eva Gifford. She was blessed to have 5 beautiful great-grandchildren.
Liz was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2020 and her daughter Yvonne in 2017.
It takes a village to care for and honor an elder. The Lewis family would like to thank each and every caregiver who brought Elizabeth to her final resting place. You made her last years happy and comfortable. Special thanks to Laura Fuller, Chiara Markin and Manpreet Minhas for their extraordinary nursing care over the past several years.
There will be no service by request.
