With sadness we announce that on June 6, 2011 Raz died peacefully at home, cared for by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beth, and their three daughters; Laurie Truant (Neil Honkanen), Valerie (Leonard) Pitman, and Julie (Michael) Aitken. Raz was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to Jessica, Mitchell, Thomas Pitman and Tasia Aitken. He is also survived by his two siblings; Denise (Louis) Mandoli and Essio (Diane) Truant, his sister-in-law Barbara Walker, and nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his sister Esther Dilling.

Raz worked for 42 years with the painters at Cominco. He loved playing his clarinet and alto saxophone in the Army Band during WW II, as well as the Serenaders, Rhythm Kings and Nova Tones Orchestras. He was also a member of the Maple Leaf Band for 80 years. Raz was a long time member of the Colombo Lodge, West Kootenay Naturalists and St. Andrew’s Anglican Church.

A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11 am. All are welcome to attend a reception in the church hall following the service. Cremation will take place at Mountain View Cemetery. Bill Clark with Personal Alternative Funeral Services “Carberry’s Chapel” has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care provided by Interior Health Home Care Nurses and the staff of Neighbourhood Nursing.
