Esther Margaret Quattrin (nee Schewe) passed away peacefully on January 30, 2017 at Rosewood Village, following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 16, 1929 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan.

Esther worked at the Bank of Commerce in Trail from 1950-1953, and as Deputy Clerk for the Village of Fruitvale from 1966 until her retirement in 1981. She was involved with many groups including the Alzheimer’s Support Group in Trail, and the Peace Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid. Esther was also one of the organizers of the Fruitvale Homecoming Reunion in 1991. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother and nonie. Her family was her priority and she taught us the value of faith, unconditional love, integrity, hard work and determination. Esther moved to Fruitvale with her family in 1943. In 1947 her parents purchased the service station that became Beaver Esso, and they ran the business as a family. While living in Fruitvale she met her husband Sid, they were married on May 16, 1953. They built their home, raised their family and continued to reside in Fruitvale until 2009. While her health permitted, Esther enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, knitting and handicrafts of all kinds. Mom’s hands were never idle, and there wasn’t anything she couldn’t do when she set her mind to it.

She is survived by her daughter; Wendy (Murray) Marten of Fruitvale, son; Daryl of Edmonton, sister; Marion (Jim) Bilesky, sister-in-law; Jacquie McDicken, grandchildren; Lee (Lisa), Todd (Kyla), Sara (Shawn), Joni-Lyn, Jonathan, Ryan (Tracy), Reannon, Kevin and Jessie, great-grandchildren; Rhys, Carys, Emily, Faith, Noah, Jackson, Sebastian, David, Julie, Ava, Maddison and Hayden, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Esther was predeceased by her husband of 56 years; Sidney, brother; Lawrence, and parents; Otto and Gerda Schewe.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 am, at the Peace Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 2nd Ave, Trail, with Pastor Ron Abresch Officiating. Alexandra Butts of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Esther’s name to the Greater Trail Hospice Society, www.trailhospice.org, or the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, www.alzheimer.ca/bc.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the Doctors and staff of Rosewood Village for their exceptional, kind and compassionate care of mom over the past 8 years.
