HESLOP: Frederick (Fred) George – of Trail, passed away surrounded by his family at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital on October 31, 2013. Fred was born January 9, 1943 in Trail, BC.

Fred was involved with BC Hockey for over 20 years, acting as the Chair for multiple programs and representing BC Hockey on many National Committees. Fred served as the President of BC Hockey from 2004-2006, representing BC on the Hockey Canada Board of Directors. In 2007, he received the BC Hockey Diamond Stick Award in recognition of outstanding service to the game, and also received the Sport BC Presidents Award for dedication to the sport of hockey.

Fred spent many years as a coach and official in the Trail Minor Hockey Association, receiving several awards and winning a Provincial Juvenile Championship in 1968. In addition, Fred spent many hours coaching and volunteering for Trail Little League. Fred was a member of the Rossland-Trail Country Club, enjoying many rounds of golf with Jim, Al and Don. He was also an avid Vancouver Canucks fan and enjoyed his lively hockey discussions with Tony and Rob.

Fred worked for Cominco (Teck) in the Inspection Services Department, having the opportunity to travel the world on the company’s behalf and developing a special appreciation for the Canadian Arctic. Fred retired in 2002 after 39 years of service.

Fred loved to travel, especially the many cruises that he took to the Caribbean and Alaska with his wife Gail. He remembered fondly his 2 trips through the Panama Canal. He and Gail also looked forward to their frequent trips to Kelowna to spend time with their grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Gail, his sons Darren (Karen) and Mark, his grandchildren, Kirstyn and Jakson, his sisters Joan and Marg, his brother Pat (Linnette), his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara and Neil Craig, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred is predeceased by his parents Freda and Wilfred and parents-in-law Bill and Bernice Forrest and his infant grandson Wilson.

Respecting Fred’s wishes, an informal Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #11, Trail.
