It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fredrick Shorthouse on May 15 2011 in Trail B.C. at the age of 87.

Fred was born in Vancouver, B.C. January 25, 1924 to Fredrick and Margaret Shorthouse. Fred spent three years during WW II in the Engineers 21st Army Group. On August 29, 1946, he married Elsie Dalla Lana and they built a house in Glenmerry. They had two daughters, Alix and Patrice. After working in the Tank Rooms at Cominco for 45 years, Fred retired in 1985.

Fred will be remembered as a skilled outdoorsman who loved to include his nephews in his passion for fishing, hunting and hiking. Fred was a member of Rossland-Trail Country Club and the Trail Curling Club for many years. He enjoyed his time with family and friends at Kootenay Lake, rising early to fish in his tin boat and take in the scenery. Gardening and berry picking were also activities that he took great pleasure in.

Fred will be remembered by his wife of 64 years, Elsie, daughters Alix of Edmonton Ab., and Patti (Joe) of Trail B.C., grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jason and Michael of Edmonton Ab. and Braedon and Marliese of Trail B.C., sister Grace of Port Moody, sister in law Lida Buccini, brother in law Ivo Dalla Lana (Mary) and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral as Fred requested. The family will have a gathering at Kootenay Lake this summer.

Al Grywacheski with Personal Alternative Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial tributes may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of British Columbia Suite at 600-890 West Pender Street Vancouver BC V6C 1J9.
