STYAN, Garrick Ernest (Garrie) - beloved husband, father and granddad.
Garrie was born January 6th, 1939 in Vancouver, BC and passed away June 7th, 2025 in Grand Forks, BC.
Garrie is survived by his beloved wife Bev; of 63 years, daughter Nadine (Troy), son Greg (Allison), Grandson Callum (Moe), granddaughter Tara (Callum Tucker). He also leaves behind several sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, nieces and nephews. Was predeceased by son Christopher, brother Vern, parents Ann and Erine.
Garrie grew up in Vancouver, played soccer, graduated from John Oliver 1957, and earned a BSc in Chemistry 1962 and a PhD honours Chemistry 1965 from UBC. Garrie's career took him across Canada, USA, Russia, Europe, South America, and Australasia working in the pulp and paper industry.
Garrie was a great teacher of card and board games to his own children and his nieces and nephews. He coached soccer with Cliff Avenue United Football Club for 15 years. He took his soccer team to Canadian National Final losing to an Ontario team and to Great Britain and played many teams from England and Scotland. This was a great learning experience for these young men.
In Garrie's retirement years he volunteered with "Gleaners" in Abbotsford and also with the M2W2 group in Abbotsford/Agassiz mentoring prisoners. Garrie believed it was important to give back to the community.
Garrie will be missed but lovingly remembered by all those lives he touched. He will be remembered for his intellect, fairness, and his laugh that came from deep down in his boots. He was known as "the man of 20 questions".
Rest in peace, Garrie you are deeply loved.
A Celebration of Garrie's Life will be held at the Grand Forks Curling Centre on July 5th at 1:00.
There will be another celebration in Langley sometime in September.
