Gladys was born on December 16, 1917 in Handel, Saskatchewan. She passed away on
August 1st, 2017 at Columbia View Lodge in Trail with her granddaughter Kellyann and her great granddaughter Lauren by her side.
Gladys married Frank Hemmerling in 1940 in Handel. In 1943 they moved to Trail where Frank worked for Cominco and Gladys worked at Hudson Bay Company. In the late 1940’s, Gladys and Frank along with Gladys’ parents, Phoebe and Gilbert Jacobson, purchased and ran the Centrading Store in Kinnaird, BC.
Gladys was most at peace at Christina Lake, playing cards, bocce ball and spending time with her friends and family making wonderful
memories.
As Gladys aged her soul became even gentler. Those close to her would often hear the words, “Have I told you lately that I love you?” Our response was always, “Yes Gladys you have- many, many times and we love you too!” Which, she would then respond, “Well darlin’, I’m telling you now!”
Thank you for the gift of the life you shared with us.
Gladys is survived by son in law Bill, granddaughter Kellyann (Kevin), grandson Jeff (Irene), great grandchildren Lauren (Tim), Cassie, Cozette and Joseph as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband Frank, her daughter Sylvia, brothers Cliff and Gordon and sister Marjorie.
