In loving memory ~

Grant was born and raised in Trail BC. He graduated from JL Crowe Secondary in 1967, with his main interest at school being art and design. When he was around twenty years old, he moved to Vancouver to live the life of an artist and musician.

Grant created posters for many Vancouver clubs and bands and his "The Egress" posters are still collected today. He was also a well known and respected musician, playing in many Vancouver bands over the years. Some of his songs from "The Surfdusters" can be heard on SpongeBob SquarePants. He was known as "the legendary Grant Shankaruk" for his encyclopedic knowledge of rock and roll music.

Grant also had a weekly radio show: "The Downliners Crypt" on CJSF in Burnaby. His archived shows are still available on the CJSF website.

Grant was admitted to Vancouver General Hospital and passed gently after an unexpected, short illness. He was predeceased by his parents William and Noreen and his brother David. Grant is survived by his brothers Harold (Marina) and Brian (Ann), his nephew Ethan, his niece Roan and cousins in Canada, the US and Australia. He leaves behind many cherished friends and fellow musicians. Grant will be returned to his loving family at Mountain View in Trail.
