March 27, 1938 - March 3, 2011

Hans was born in Sulzburg, Germany the first son of Johann and Gurtrud Korn. At age 14, he began his training as a machinist. He came to Canada at the age of 19 and found work at a urarnium mine in Elliot Lake, Ontario. His Schatz, Erika joined him there six months and became his wife. After a brief return to Germany, they decided to go back to Canada to stay, arriving in Trail in 1964. Hans worked at Cominco as a machinist/millwright and eventually became a manager. He retired in 1992.

Hans’ retirement was filled with his passions for skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, canoeing, biking and indulging his passion for actively exploring remote corners of the Earth.

He passed away after an intense battle with cancer. He is survived by his brothers: Werner and Gerhart, children: Peter, Juergen, Rainer and Heidi, daughters-in-law: Debbie, Kathi and Cathy, and grandchildren: Nicholas, Philip, Harmonie, Zoe, Emmet, Dominic, Hanna and Jordon. He was pre-deceased buy his beloved wife, Erika, his brother, Gunther and his parents, Johann and Gertrud.

His family and his dear friend and partner Irme would be very pleased to have you join us in a celebration of his life at the Fruitvale Memorial Hall, March 15, 2011 at 11:00 am. Al Grywacheski of Personal alternative Funeral Services “Carberry’s Chapel” is in care of the arrangements.
