MacFadden, Jack Hylton — 1921 - 2012.

We are sad to announce the passing of our much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather at the age of 90. Jack was predeceased by his wife Aileen and sister Bernice. He is survived by his daughters Aleta and JoAnne (Greg), his granddaughters Renee (Al) and Ashley (Kyle), his great-grandchildren Finnegan and Presley, good friend Ray and many Hayden in-laws.

Jack was born in Lethbridge, AB but grew up in Cranbrook where he met his future wife. After graduation from normal school, he taught for a year at Glenbank Elementary near Nakusp. He then joined the RCAF as a navigator and was sent to Britain. Jack completed a full tour of duty and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, Jack attended UBC where he earned his engineering degree in metallurgy. In 1948, he and Aileen were married and then moved to Trail where he worked for Cominco until his retirement in 1982.

Jack was active in the Trail United Church, serving on many committees over the years. He also volunteered with the United Way, the Royal Canadian Legion and Scouts Canada. In his spare time he golfed and curled and spent time at Christina Lake with the family. He also enjoyed working on his garden and playing bridge. Jack lived a long and full life, but we will miss him dearly.

The family would like to thank Rev. Simmonds for the comfort he gave Jack in his final days. We would also like to thank the staff at Poplar Ridge for the care given to Jack over the last three years. It was comforting to us to know that he was treated with kindness, respect and affection.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 25th at 1:00pm at Trail United Church with Reverend Keith Simmonds, celebrant. A reception will follow in the church hall. Sarah Greenwood of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jack’s name may be made to the Trail & District United Way, #2, 803 Victoria St., Trail BC. V1R 3T3, or to the Poplar Ridge recreation fund.
