August 9, 1938 - June 17, 2021
Janet passed away at Poplar Ridge Pavilion, as the result of a stroke, on June 17, 2021. She had been a resident there for merely a month, having left her apartment due to several medical issues.
Janet was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, the eldest of four children born to Maurice and Grace Smith. The family moved to Trail in 1952 where Maurice obtained work with Cominco.
Upon her high school graduation, Janet worked at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and when she married Ken Kretlow in 1974, they lived in Fruitvale and she worked at the Fruitvale branch of the Kootenay Savings Credit Union.
Janet and Ken moved to Genelle and after Ken's passing, Janet moved to Warfield to be closer to her sister.
Janet was a person of great faith and she held many positions within her church. She and Ken were blessed with 36 years of marriage and they enjoyed watching hockey and baseball, playing board games, and visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed puzzles and reading.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Ken, her parents Maurice and Grace Smith, her brother Ivan, and her brother-in-law Don Matthews. She also mourned the deaths of many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as members of Ken's family.
Left to mourn are her brother Malcolm (Colleen) and her sister Jerril (Don) Matthews. She will be missed by her nephews Ryan Matthews, Braden (Fiona) Smith, Laura, Hayden, Liam, and Eliza; nieces Alison (Brent) Lykins, Noah, Grace, and Gwynn, and Charissa (Nathan) Sabey, Emily; several of Ken's relations.
Janet was blessed with many friends, family and workmates who supported her on her life's journey. May she rest in peace now that she is with her beloved Ken.
