Joan Saunders, formerly of Sunningdale, passed away early Monday morning November 7, 2011 at Columbia View Lodge. Joan was born in Liverpool, England on August 12, 1925

She met her husband Doug (Sandy) a Canadian, during the war while he was on leave from the British Royal Navy. They stayed in Liverpool for twelve years after the war and had two sons, Kevin and Michael, and a third later in Ontario, Guy. The family immigrated to Oakville, Ontario in 1959 where Joan and Sandy spent their working life.

Kevin and Michael moved west to BC and Guy to Alberta and where joined by Joan and Sandy in 1983 where they set up home in Warfield and later to Sunningdale. Joan was trained in England as a clothing model and sales person; perhaps she can be remembered as working at Trevas in Rossland during the 1980’s.

Her devoted husband Sandy passed away in 2002. She is survived by her sons, Kevin (Karen), Michael (Rose), and Guy (Debbie), grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.

Words cannot express the appreciation for the Staff and volunteers at Columbia View Lodge, and Dr. McCoid who lovingly gave their care and support to Joan. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia, 300-828 West 8th Ave., Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2 or www.alzhiemerbc.org would be greatly appreciated.
