It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of or beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Joan, whom was known as “Nan” by her loving family.

Joan was born in Folly Lake, Nova Scotia on September 16, 1921 and passed away in her 94th year on April 5, 2016 at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Ray, her grandson Nolan and her son-in-law Neil. Nan will be forever missed by her daughter June Oatway, her son Darrell (Maria), her grandchildren; Tyler (Yerena) and Kelsey Oatway, Dustin (Kristina), Kyle (Sarah) and Travis St. Denis, her great-grandchildren; Jack, Araya Rose, Taylor, Sophia and Brayden as well as numerous cousins in Nova Scotia.

Mom always enjoyed going to watch her grandchildren play hockey and baseball with her good friend Luisa and they were great “fans”. She always loved family gatherings and enjoyed visiting with friends. Nan was a very special lady who touched everyone’s heart. One of the things she really enjoyed was looking at all her pictures. She will always be in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ “Carberry’s Chapel” on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11:00 am with Kathy Phillip, Celebrant. Gwen Ziprick of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Joan’s name may be made to Columbia View Lodge at 2920 Laburnum Drive, Trail, BC, V1R 4N2.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of KBRH for their care as well as the staff at CVL for their compassionate and ongoing care of our mother. Special thanks to Dr. Benzer for her empathetic and compassionate care.
