It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Danen on August 9, 2021 at Poplar Ridge Pavilion in Trail, BC at age 94.
He was born in Silvolde, Netherlands into a large family of many brothers and sisters. After surviving WWII, he came to Canada in the 1950's. He met his wife Alida on the ship where they were both traveling between Canada and the Netherlands. Once arriving in Trail, he worked for CM&S, which was later Cominco, until retirement in 1986.
He enjoyed curling, fishing, camping at Kootenay Lake, but most of all, his beautiful flower gardens at his home in East Trail. John and Alida loved to dance and were often seen doing so at many functions in Trail. They travelled many times to the Netherlands to visit family as well as to other European and Canadian destinations.
John was predeceased by his wife, Alida in 2019, his parents Arie and Luz Danen (Massop), brothers Gert Danen and Fons Danen, sister Mia Postulart in the Netherlands and sister Jenny Fellows in Trail.
He is survived by his son, Dick Gademans (Brandi), six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a small celebration of life at a later date. Andreas Schmitz of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation ServicesTM has been entrusted with the arrangements.
