John Harasin

December 23, 1930 - August 22, 2018
On August 22, 2018, at the age of 87, John passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, after suffering a brief battle with leukemia.

John was born on December 23, 1930. At the age of 15, he met the love of his life, Edith McNab. After going steady for 7 years, Edie's mother finally gave them permission to be married. On May 11, 1953, John and Edie were married and on May 11, 2018 they celebrated their 65th Anniversary. After their wedding, John and Edie moved into the home that John had lived in since he was 16. He remained in the same home until his passing.

John loved his family and was a devoted father to Michael (Susan), Rob (Yolande) and Sandy (Bruce) Garrett. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. John was also a surrogate father to many of his nieces and nephews who lost their own father at an early age.

John was a woodworking teacher and vice principal at JL Crowe and Rossland Secondary School, and taught House Construction at BCIT during the summer. Throughout his 38 year career, Mr. Harasin taught many students, all of whom he loved running into and chatting with over the years.....he never seemed to forget a face.

John was on the Rossland Credit Union Board of Directors for 25 years, and after his retirement, also represented the West Kootenays on the Retired Teacher's Board of BC.

John loved to spend his time traveling and visiting with family and friends. He also loved to read about world history and listen to classical music, with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture being his favourite.

A Celebration of Life for John will be held at the Rossland Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14 on Saturday, September 22 at 11:00 am with Gwen Ziprick, Celebrant. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Servicestm has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family would like to thank all of their wonderful friends and family for their friendship, love and support.
