In Loving Memory ~
(Joseph Adrien) Jean Marie Lussier died peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 3:35 pm at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.
Born in St-Barnabé-Sud Quebec in 1954, he was raised on a dairy farm with his two sisters and loving parents Georges and Marie-Flore.
In 1975, Jean Marie joined the Royal Canadian Military Engineers where he spent his years as a Combat Engineer. During his time in the military, he traveled the world from many points in Canada and overseas.
His postings moved him between Valcartier, Petawawa, where he was part of the Airborne Regiment of Engineers, to Trail, Chilliwack, Lahr, West Germany, back to Canada and Valcartier with his final posting in Chilliwack.
He met Sharon in Chilliwack while she was working there and he was in town for a heavy equipment operators course. Shortly after, they were married in Pembroke, Ontario in 1981. A year later, Sharon and Jean Marie started a family with the arrival of their first daughter, Andrea, followed by a second daughter, Danielle.
In the mid 90's Jean Marie was sent to Cambodia as a UN Peacekeeper for 6 months. Retiring in 1998, he promptly joined the 44th Field Squadron Engineers in Trail.
Not one to stay idle, Jean Marie started working at Red Mountain as a ski instructor, sharing his passion for skiing with the majority of Rossland's children for over 20 years.
In addition to his time at the mountain, Jean Marie was also a security guard for Safety Net, Membership Chair for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14, and did maintenance for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rossland.
After retirement, Jean Marie and Sharon enjoyed traveling around the globe, especially driving all over North America countless times with their dogs in tow. An avid outdoorsman, Jean Marie loved to spend his time hiking the mountains around his home and huckleberry picking with Sharon in the summers.
Survived by his wife Sharon of 41 years of Rossland, two daughters, Andrea (Grant) of Grand Forks, Danielle (Travis) of Rossland and 4 grandchildren, Greg, Justin, Loic, and Freya. He is also survived by his sisters Ginette and Madeleine of Quebec and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
