March 20, 1930 – September 29, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness to announce Rolly Racette passed away peacefully at Columbia View Lodge on September 29, 2022, with family at his side. He was born March 20, 1930 in Montreal, Quebec to Frank and Anne Racette. His family eventually settled in Trail in 1939.
He joined the Canadian Air Force and obtained rank of Corporal. He was an Aero Engine Technician.
In 1954, Rolly married the love of his life, Shirley. They lived in several places that he was stationed and eventually settled in Fruitvale when he was discharged. He built their first house on Nelson Ave. He started work at Cominco in the Metal Fab shop, then transferred to the riggers. He was offered a millwright apprenticeship and completed that in 1971 and then retiring after 42 years.
Rolly enjoyed dancing, fishing, hunting, curling, waterskiing and boating. Many summers were spent at their cabin at Christina Lake and at Crescent beach. They made many memories with family and friends. The kids in the neighborhood knew him as the guy that would fix anything. Quite often there was a knock on the door asking him to fix something and he would happily oblige.
Rolly will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley, one son Larry (Donna), 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Fruitvale Christian Fellowship, 1878 Columbia Gardens Road, Fruitvale, BC with Pastor Bryan Henry officiating. Kole Roth of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation (Columbia View Lodge Recreation Department) at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
The family would like to thank everyone that was involved in taking care of Rolly at Columbia View Lodge, and also to Dr. Ralph Behrens (retired) and Dr. Libby McCoid. He was well taken care of.
