GABANA, KAREN TONI passed away suddenly at KBRH on January 27, 2013. She was born in Trail on August 16, 1959 and grew up here. In her younger days Karen was adventurous and lived in places like Calgary, Montreal, Belize and Niagara Falls, but, after separating from her first husband, moved back to Trail in the early 1990s and lived the rest of her life here.
Karen was an exceptionally giving person and loved to spend time at extended care facilities talking with and helping the local residents. Karen loved her family and friends and would always be first in on any work project or discussion. Her special friends were Beth Pitman, Marisa Jimenez and Anna O’Brien. But she was most proud of her two cats and would light up at any chance to talk about them.
She was predeceased by her mother Dorothy, to whom Karen was a daily caregiver for 20 years, and also by her second husband Tim Barousky, aunts, uncles, and her grandparents. Karen is survived by her father Norman (Gail); brothers Brian and Steven; sister Lynn (Preston) and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Father Jim McHugh celebrant. Karen will be interred in her mother’s grave on a later date.
