Kathy passed away suddenly in Montreal on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the age of 57. She was born in Trail, BC on Oct. 4, 1956 to Danny and Morfydd Leschiutta, joining older sister Mary Anne and later welcoming younger sister Joy.

During her school years, Kathy was active in Brownies and the life of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. She enjoyed weekly piano lessens and excelled at playing the French horn in the school band. After graduating from J. Lloyd Crowe Sr. High in 1974, she attended Selkirk College in Castlegar for one year. For a time she worked at L’Bear’s Health Food Store and also for Home Support in Trail. It was her deep love of music and children that ultimately led her to find her “niche” playing piano on a regular basis for ballet classes and assisting with music in various churches, including playing the organ. For number of years she was employed as caregiver to two small children of a young widower.

Kathy moved to Castlegar in her early 20s.It was there she met Daniel Plante, and in Aug. 1985 they were married. Son David was born in 1987 and Matthieu in 1989. In the fall of that year, the family moved to Daniel’s native Quebec where Daniel found employment with Noranda and Kathy got a good handle on the French language. Although later divorced, the two remained active co-parents. For several years Kathy taught piano lessons,as well as English classes, in her home. She again assumed the role of caregiver to an 18-month-old boy, a job which she had over a period of about 12 years. Through her sons’ involvement in Sea Cadets, she eventually became a civilian officer and remained active in that position.

From the late 1990s until her passing, Kathy suffered many serious health issues, facing them all with quiet perseverance, great courage and a steadfast faith in God. Her gentle soul and radiant smile will be dearly missed by her sons David and Matthieu (Catherine), sisters Mary Anne and Joy (Chris), niece Rebecca, special friend Pierre and his son pierre-Henri, her extended family and a host of loyal friends.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Kathy’s life will beheld on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2:00p.m., at the Salvation Army Church in Trail, 2030 Second Ave., with Majoy Heather Harbin presiding. Reception to following the church hall.
