On Monday March 6, 2017, Kim Andrea Hanik, mother, daughter, noni, sister, and friend passed away suddenly at home. She was born on September 2, 1961, the youngest child of Art and the late Marlene Pompu. She was a graduate of J.L. Crowe and went on to become a licensed hairdresser working in local salons and out of her home. The great loves of her life were her children and grandchildren.

Kim will be forever remembered by her son Robert (Lindsay), her father Art, her brother Lauri (Shelley), and her sister Loni (Brent) Laface. She will be lovingly remembered by her treasured grandchildren Wyatt and Alissa, as well as many special nieces and nephews. Kim was predeceased by her daughter Courtney and her mom Marlene.

Hummingbirds held a special meaning to Kim in her life and she had them displayed throughout her home. Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Hummingbirds open our eyes to the wonders of the world and inspire us to open our hearts to loved ones and friends. Like a hummingbird we aspire to hover and savor each moment as it passes, embrace all that life has to offer and to celebrate the joy of everyday. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no service at Kim’s request. Alexandra Butts of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements. The family greatly appreciates the expressions of sympathy and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Pediatric Unit at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca.
