January 1, 1939 - March 12, 2023
Lorne was born on January 1st, 1939, in Trail, B.C. and passed away after a brief illness on March 12th, 2023, at age 84 with his loving family by his side.
Lorne is survived by his beloved wife Carol (nee Schiavon) of almost 60 years; his children Karen (Tom), Sheila (Paul), Ron (Lisa) and Greg (Leah); his eight grandchildren Nicholas, Melissa, Ranae, Jacob, Gabriel, Caleb, Brandon, and Blair; his siblings Gerald, Irene, Jacquie, Russ, Sharon, Glenn, Lorraine, Ken, Richard, and Barry; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorne was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Ruth Babcock; mother and father-in-law Nancy and Charlie Schiavon; brother Melvin; brothers-in-law Adolf, Hughie, Gerry, and Toby; sister-in-law Adele; and niece Diane.
Growing up in Trail, Lorne enjoyed hockey and baseball and was a 4-year member of the Trail Militia.
He married Carol in 1963 and moved with her to Vancouver to begin his career in accounting. They returned to Trail in 1967 to raise their family. Lorne worked as a Chartered Accountant for 31 years, first in public practice and later with Atco Lumber, before retiring in 2001.
Lorne was an active member of the Trail community. He served with the Kinsmen Club for over ten years where he was very involved in raising funds through their "5-car bingo" and later was instrumental in securing funding to establish Kiro Manor and Columbia View Lodge.
He enjoyed curling for many years in both the men's and mixed leagues. Lorne was a long-time member of the Rossland-Trail Country Club and loved golfing with friends and family both locally and during his travels with Carol. Lorne and Carol ran the West Kootenay Junior Golf Circuit together for several years.
Lorne was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa who cherished his family above all else. He enjoyed hosting parties and family gatherings, always providing us with many laughs.
