Lawrence Verigin passed away peacefully on February 9, 2017 at the

age of 85. He led a full and adventurous life and left this earth with no

regrets. Despite his success in life, Lawrence never forgot his humble beginnings and all the people that helped along the way, frequently reminiscing about his adventures with friends, family and colleagues. He grew up in

Saskatchewan and was the eldest son of Bill

and Annie (Morozoff) Verigin. In the early ’50s, he came to BC to work on the construction of Waneta dam. Shortly thereafter he fell in love with and married Mabel Soloveoff. They raised two children, Patti and Mark, living in

Montrose for many years.

Lawrence always had a strong work ethic. He founded his own construction and millwork business with his two brothers, Russel and Elmer, designing and building many custom homes (including his own) in the Kootenays. He was one of the founders of the local ICBA chapter and past president of the Doukhobor Cultural Society.  He also volunteered his time to help build numerous structures in the area including several buildings at the Trail Rodeo grounds and the retreat at Whatshan Lake.

Among Lawrence’s favorite pastimes were

woodworking, traveling and winemaking.

Lawrence is survived by his daughter Patricia (Peter) Rowley, son Mark (Angela) Verigin, sister Mary Khadekin, and brother Elmer (Marilyn) Verigin. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Annie, wife Mabel and brother Russel. While he may no longer physically be with us, his spirit will continue to fill the hearts of all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

At Lawrence’s request, no services will be held. A celebration of life is scheduled for

May 13, 2017 in Genelle, BC. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in honor of Lawrence can be made to Whatshan Lake Retreat c/o Doukhobor Heritage Retreat Society #1999 at PO Box 3701, Castlegar, BC, V1N 3W4, or a charity of your choice.
