Mom was born and raised in 'The Gulch' in Trail, the fifth of five children. As youngest member of the Ermacora family she was part of a vibrant, loving family and a large, supportive Italian community.
In 1943, at the age of 15, Mom was recruited from business school to work as a teller in the Bank of Montreal because she was fluent in Italian and English. Mom worked at the bank for over 40 years where she made life long friends and got to know many, many residents in Trail.
Throughout the rest of her life it was impossible for Mom to walk through a store, or along any street in town, without stopping and engaging caringly with a friend, relative, or acquaintance. Mom loved people.
In 1948, while working as teller in the bank, she noticed a handsome young fellow waiting in her line who appeared to be love struck. That young man was Dad, John Ganzert, who had recently arrived from Saskatchewan to work at Cominco.
Mom and Dad were engaged within weeks and married within one year. Their marriage, a model of caring, love, and enduring affection, lasted for nearly 70 years, until Dad's passing in 2017.
Mom and Dad are survived by their four children Karren Hedge (Cal), Darrel Ganzert (Valerie), Tish Farrell (Pat) and Kevin Ganzert (Kathy), 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was dedicated to her children and was an avid believer in the strength of family. She was a great cook who enjoyed nothing more than watching others devour meals that she lovingly prepared. She made sure that the fridge was always full of food, that the children had all the necessities, and encouraged all of her children to pursue higher education. She and Dad readily sacrificed to ensure that their children could move forward; we are forever grateful.
