Koftinoff: Lynda Mathilda

With heavy hearts we sadly announce the passing of our mother on September 30, 2014 with her family by her side just as she was going to celebrate her 90th birthday.

Lynda came from Luseland, Saskatchewan to the Trail area for her first teaching job in Casino and has been in the area ever since. She moved to Fruitvale in 1947 and met her future husband George. She then taught school at Fruitvale Elementary for 25 years. In between her hours at school she maintained a large flower and vegetable garden plus she always seemed to help on the farm and raise us kids. A big part of her life was managing the Tamarac Trailer Park as well. After retirement, she became involved in the Senior Citizen’s Group at the Fruitvale Manor. She held the position of President for many years and numerous other roles within the group. In retirement she enjoyed her travels with George to places like China, Europe, Cuba, Alaska etc. They also had an annual fishing trip to the coast to replenish their stock of canned salmon. Mom was a loving provider, caring mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

She leaves behind her dear children; Greg (Barb) of Sparwood, Bill (Barb) of Balfour, Shari (Verne) Jamieson of Fruitvale; her grandchildren Sam, Cecil (Kelly), Natalie (Dan), Joe, Aeron (Tim), Mike (Cassidy), Tanya (Rick), Dave and 6 great grandchildren. Lynda is also survived by her brother Elmer and sister Doris. Lynda is pre-deceased by her husband George, sisters Ethel & Irene and brothers Arnie & Norman.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on the 3rd floor of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. You were all so kind and gentle with our mother. We would also like to thank Dr. Dryden for all of the compassionate care and support during this difficult time. Thank you to John, Sue and staff at Mountain Side Villa for all your kindness during mom’s stay. Serendipity Care, mom looked forward to your morning visits especially if she could sneak in a game of crib.

For those who wish a donation may be made in honour of our mom to the Trail hospice society (7-1500 Columbia Ave Trail BC V1R 1J9 or www.trailhospice.org). The family will be having a private graveside service at a later date.
