Oct 10, 1937 – Apr 6, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcel Bouchard- our Papa. Born in Big River, Saskatchewan, Marcel left home as a young man to pursue life in Victoria. In the 1970’s, he moved to the Trail area and met his wife Mary Ann. Married in 1979, they would begin a life together and it is in their home where Marcel would say goodbye.
Marcel spent his career working for Pepsi and had many hobbies that kept him busy. From woodworking to stained glass, he loved working with his hands. Marcel had a quiet kindness that could fill a room. He loved his family and his greatest joy came from the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed coffee, family meals, camping, playing cards, bowling, and his crosswords. Not a day went by that he did not complete a crossword and that continued until the very end. While his illness took a toll on his body, his mind and heart thrived. Likely he is sitting at this very moment, having a coffee and quietly finishing a crossword surrounded by friends and family that passed before him.
Marcel will be forever missed by his wife Mary Ann, children Desneiges (Mark Profili), Krista (Nigel McPhee), Dawn (Ray St. Jean) and Cory (Bernadette Ross) and his grandchildren Nicole, Mitchell, Emma, Max, Katie, Ben, Ross, Bradley and Steven. Lastly, his faithful four-legged companion George who was with him in his final moments.
He was predeceased by his parents Henri and Desneiges and siblings Theresa, Rita, Yvette and Roland. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, witty humour and patience- he was a gift. His family would give anything to spend another moment with him, but there is solace in knowing that Marcel is able to breathe again without pain.
There will be no service at his request, but if you would like to honour Marcel please take a moment to connect with a loved one or that special person in your life. His life was simple, his philosophy on life was simple- live and love with kindness.
Weep not for me though,
I have gone into the gentle night.
Grieve if you will,
but not for long upon my soul’s sweet fight.
Remember not my fight for breath,
remember not my strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death,
but celebrate my life.
