May 9, 1936 - December 4, 2020
Margaret Florence Mary Campbell left us to join her parents, her son and other loved ones on Friday, December 4, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 84 years.
Margaret chose to pass away peacefully in her own bed in her own home, in the company of family and her dear companion cat Wallace.
Margaret was born in London, England on May 9, 1936, and married Ted Nice in 1955. They were the proud parents of Derek, Carol and Mike, and together the family immigrated to Canada in 1966. Margaret's proudest legacy is her 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren spread across Alberta, BC, and Ontario, and her many nieces and nephews and their families, to whom she was so very close.
Margaret lived life to the fullest, graduating from school at 16 and going on to work in Fleet Street before starting her family. Some of her fondest memories came in the years the family spent in Malta. After coming to Canada Margaret had a successful career that included her time with the Alberta Government and the City of Calgary. She especially enjoyed her time working on the Alberta 75th Anniversary planning team.
She loved to travel, making many trips to England, Europe and throughout the US and the Caribbean. After retiring she dedicated her time to volunteer work, making widely recognized contributions to the East Village Community Association, the Calgary Police Museum, the Calgary City Centre Youth Hostel and other worthy causes.
Margaret was predeceased by her son Michael Richard Nice, her former husband Edward Peter Nice, her sister Elsie Marion Robb and her brother Richard Frederick Campbell. She is happy now to be with them again.
She is survived by her son Derek Nice (Carol), and daughter Carol Schlender (Dennis); grandchildren Angela Nice, Chris Nice, Vanessa Gutknecht (Mark), Richard Schenkhuizen (Samantha), Michael Nice (Lindsay), Aaron Nice (Chantal), Jason Stanton, Rob Graham (Amilie), Rena Pashak (Brian), David Schenkhuizen, Brian Schlender (Emily), Chris Schlender, Greg Schlender, Emma Schlender, and Michael Schlender; and great grandchildren Kelsey and Byan Nice, Tanaya Nice, Ace Gutknecht, Raeanne and Paxton Schenkhuizen, Paige and Teigan Nice, Nigel, Elliot, Ainsley and Winston Nice, Cody Stanton, Jazmine Graham, Aja, Violet and Isla Pashak, and Eleanor, Alice and Rosemarie Schlender.
Margaret is thankful to her close friends over the years, and especially for their kindness and support in recent times.
Margaret is especially grateful to Rena, who was her companion, friend and caregiver in her final days.
A celebration of life is planned for 2021, after Covid 19 has passed. At Margaret's wish the family asks that if friends desire, donations be made in her memory to the Humane Society (https://www.calgaryhumane.ca/donate/).
