We are saddened to announce that Margaret Isabel Rotter passed away peacefully at Columbia View Lodge on July 8, 2011 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Margaret was born in New Westminster BC and raised in Victoria. She graduated from the Royal Jubilee School of Nursing in 1955. She worked in a number of hospitals eventually settling in Trail where she retired in 1990 after 22 years at the Trail Regional Hospital.

In 1961 she married Erich and they celebrated their 50th anniversary this past April. Together they raised three children in Trail and were very committed to their family.

She loved travelling, fishing at Arrow Lake, reading, gardening, eating and making great food, especially apple pie and was a long-time patron of the Aquatic Centre. She continued to care for others after her retirement and was an active volunteer in the community. She volunteered at special events and was involved with Meals on Wheels, Red Cross Loan Cupboard, Canadian Cancer Society and Kate’s Kitchen at the Salvation Army.

She will be dearly missed by her husband Erich, children Ralph (Janice), Diane, Kurt and grandchildren Hailey, Katie, Brianna, Conrad and Aidan, siblings Pat (Bob) Simpson, Sally (Margaret) Mackenzie, Jim (Naomi) Mackenzie and their families.

The family is very appreciative of the excellent care Margaret received at the Kootenay Boundary Hospital with special thanks to Jim Maniago, Dr. Scotland and Dr. Tucker. Also, the wonderfully compassionate care we all received at Columbia View Lodge.

At Margaret’s request, there will not be a service. Al Grywacheski with Alternatives Funeral and Cremations Services™ had been entrusted with arrangements. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family’s online Memorial Register at: www.myalternatives.ca
