Margaret passed away at Poplar Ridge on September 13, 2021, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in 1933 in Lichfield, England. After graduating from high school in 1948, she went on to complete a two-year child care course, her registered nursing training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, a state-certified midwifery course in Cheltenham and Leicester and a nursing course at Sick Children's Hospital, London.
Margaret worked for 15 months at her local hospital, Burton-on-Trent General, in the Emergency Department before coming to Canada in March 1961 where she nursed in Windsor, Ont., Blue River, B.C., Vancouver General, and Merritt, B.C. prior to going to U.B.C. for a one-year course in Public Health nursing. She subsequently worked from 1965 to 1988 at the Trail Health Unit. After retirement, she was involved with the Hospice Committee for a few years.
Her gentle spirit and great faith were her hallmarks.
She married Peter Browne on July 1, 1967, and they were married for 41 years until Peter's death January 2009.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, George Vincent and Doris May Lees and her sisters, Anne Gould and Avid Windley, all in England; her brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Dace, in Victoria, B.C.. She is survived by her sisters, Rita Hill and Eunice Bull, in England, her brother, Peter Lees, in New Zealand, her nephew Lance Browne in China and niece Francesca Browne, in Eire, plus various other relatives in England and Eire.
Margaret's funeral will be held in Trail on Wednesday, September 22nd at 1 pm in the St. Andrew's Anglican Church. Gwen Ziprick of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
