July 14, 1921 - December 14, 2018
Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to our beloved Mother.

Madge, as she was known to her friends, was born to Frederick William and Ellen Maria Young in a log cabin at Bluebird Corner on their ten acre ranch. Mrs. Evelyn Powne was the midwife, and later became Marjorie's godmother. At the age of five her family moved into the village of Fruitvale, where she resided until 2016, at which time she moved to Columbia View Lodge.

Marjorie was a devoted and active member of St. John's Anglican Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Women's Auxiliary, and weekly Bible Study group.

Marjorie attended Trail Business College and worked at the Fruitvale Clinic, Davis' Grocery Store, and Eaton's Canada. Her most important work was performed in the loving home she established with her husband, Jack Startup. Marjorie loved music, played Western and Steel guitar, and often sat down to play her piano. She sang as she did her baking and house work.

Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sisters Olive Stahl and Florence Sadler, her nephews Peter Young and Richard Startup, and her niece Delphine Gipman. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Brenda (Joe) Spence, Jack (Judy) Startup, Wesley (Lori Swanson) Startup, Tracy (Dan) Poznikow. Also her grandchildren: Lora (Kim) Verigin, Jason (Nancy) Startup, Angie (Dale) Seifrit, Ian (Tracey) Spence, Megan (Cole) Ramshaw, Dylan (Tiane) Startup, Sean (Rachel) Duffus, Jackson Duffus, Carly (Andrew) Isnor, Jacob (Katrina) Poznikow. Great grandchildren Sharise, Trista, Spencer, Abby, Hannah, Macy, Aiden, Nolan, Laila, Sterling. Also her nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.

The family would like to thank Drs. E. McCoid and S. Benzer, and the workers and caregivers at Columbia View Lodge for their support and kindness to our Mother in her last years.

A Service of Eucharist will be held for Marjorie at St. John's Church, Fruitvale, BC, on Thursday, December 27 at 11:00 am. Gwen Ziprick of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family's online register at www.myalternatives.ca
