It is with a great sense of loss and sadness that the family of Mary Helen Andrews announces her passing on August 4, 2012 in Trail, B.C. She was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan on September 21, 1917.

Mom, as she was known to at least two generations, was predeceased by Garnet, her husband of 63 years; her sisters Elsie Robinson, Ruth Smith; and her two brothers, Arnold and Oscar Kolke. She is survived by her sisters, Elma Suran and Alice Campbell; her children Percy (JoAnne), Terry (Barb), Mark (Gale), Sharon Magee (Vern); goddaughter Gwen Hubscher (Bernie); grandchildren Danny, Sandy, David, Derek, Dustin, and Christine; many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Mom and Dad were instrumental in helping many young people through Foster Care. There were over fifty children and young adults who lived in the house for periods of time. They changed these lives for the better. She was Mom to them all.

Freshly baked bread, buns, and cookies were a wonderful welcome to Mom’s. She loved to make everyone at home. She loved to knit, crochet, and sew for her family and friends. She also loved to do crafts. The Lutheran Church was important to her, and she sewed blankets, made crafts and helped with fundraising teas and bake sales for the Church. To Dad’s dismay, she often came home with as much as she took, all of which she shared with her family.

Mom enjoyed talking to her sisters and friends on the phone as she aged. Once you got her started talking she did not want to stop. She liked the company of others. Mom’s only vice was scratch tickets. They became the perfect gift for her. She will be missed by not only the immediate family but also the Foster children and friends she made along her life’s path.

A memorial service will be held at Peace/Trinity Lutheran Church 2001-2nd Avenue, Trail on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Ron Abresch, Celebrant. Jordan Wren of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
