January 19, 1941 - August 27, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Mathews on Tuesday August 27, 2019 at the age of 78 years.
Richard retired after many years from Cominco in Trail as an electrician. Richard was also a proud member of Local 480, United Steelworkers of America. Richard and his loving wife, Vivian, spent their retirement years enjoying life by travelling and going south to Yuma, Arizona as snowbirds during the winter months. During the summer months Richard also enjoyed camping and fishing throughout the Kootenays, especially Premier Lake, with his sons and their families. Dogs were always a huge part of Richard's life, from when he was a child and his parents had chihuahuas, to his and Vivian's married life a poodle always shared their home.
Richard was a proud father of his sons, Kevin and Darrell Mathews and a kind hearted father-in-law to Crystal LaFond Mathews and Tera (Abraham) Mathews. Richard was a loving grandfather to his five grandchildren, Derek Mathews (Megan Jensen) Brittany Mathews, Vanessa (John) Tietzmann, Kendra Mathews and Courtney Mathews. Richard was also blessed with three great grandchildren, Jaxxon Mathews, Carter Mathews and Marlie Tietzmann. Most of all he loved Vivian (Johnson) Mathews his wife and soulmate of 56 years. He will be sorely missed by all.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at the Montrose Community Hall, 490 9th Avenue, Montrose, British Columbia on Saturday September 21, 2019 starting at 2:00 pm. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. www.heartandstroke.ca
