Mavis was born in Stoughton, Saskatchewan, nearly 95 years ago.

She was predeceased by her husband, John, and her siblings, Mary, Don and Walter.

She is survived by her siblings, Edith and Lois; her children, Rick (Marija) and Jane (Dave); and her grandchildren, Jordan, Shamus (Megan), Janine, Alexis (Garrett), and Allison.

Mavis began her teaching career in the prairies teaching in one room schoolhouses, eventually getting her university degree in Home Economics. She taught in Prince George, Rossland and Trail.

Mavis and John raised their family in Trail and they enjoyed being an active part of the community, including East Trail United Church.

As retirees they enjoyed their winter home in Tucson. In 2002 they moved to Penticton. Dancing, both ballroom and square dancing, travelling were hobbies they enjoyed together. After John died in 2011, Mavis continued to enjoy concerts, plays, Scrabble, swimming and doing Aquafit right up until her 94th birthday!

After a tough year with deteriorating health, Mavis died peacefully in her sleep at the residential carehome in Osoyoos. She will be remembered for her independence, perseverance, appreciation, gratitude and her love of family. Truly a life well lived.

Those who wish to are encouraged to donate to a cause of their choice in honour of Mavis.

Mavis valued international organizations supporting poverty and human rights, preserving public parks and wilderness, and health research.
