Nick passed away peacefully at the Trail Hospital. He was born in Ostrov Village in Brilliant BC which is now the site of Selkirk College. He will be missed by his wife of 69 years, Molly (Pictin), son Walter (Debby), daughters Donna (Chris) and Valerie (Dick), son in law Derryll, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Shirley.


Nick and Molly were married in Salmo BC in 1947. In 1950 they were one of the first families to move to Montrose, where they lived for 19 years. In Montrose he was an original member of the volunteer fire department and an ambulance attendant. While living in Montrose he worked in construction on the Trail Hospital, the Terra Nova Hotel and Hugh Keenlyside Dam. He also built some homes in Beaver Valley and Trail area. Nick and Molly moved to Kinnaird in 1969. Nick worked for the Castlegar School District for 17 years, first as an assistant maintenance supervisor and then supervisor. Nick and Molly created beautiful flower, fruit and vegetable gardens. Nick`s hobbies were golf, bowling, acrylic painting and woodcarving. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. Nick was a member of the Canadian Doukhobor Society. A private family memorial service was held on September 9th. Thank you to Dr. Larocque, the staff at the Trail Hospital and at Castlewood Village.
