Nilso was born July 29, 1945 in Fiume Veneto, Praturlone, Italy. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and sister in 1951 at the age of 6 to start grade one in Trail.

Nilso was predeceased by his wife Lydia in 2000, his parent Guerino and Tranquila Benedet, infant sister Egles (in Italy) and his older sister and mentor Bruna Bontempo, father-in-law Michael J. Wishlow and various relations in Italy, Toronto, and Trail.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter and best friend Trina, her fiancée Joel Martin, nephew Jim (Deb) Bontempo, nieces Janet (Richard) Horney, Egles (Brian) Mylleville and seven very special great-nephews, a very special long-time family friend Elsa Zuccato and numerous friends new and old.

With his formative years behind him, he started work at Cominco (Teck) where he enjoyed life in Trail with his family. He then met the love of his life, Lydia Wishlow and they were married in 1972. They moved into their first home in Sunningdale. Shortly after that, they moved to Mackenzie, BC where he worked in management at the pulp mill there. While living there they welcomed their beautiful daughter Trina in 1975. The family packed up, and in 1977, moved back to Trail where he continued working for Cominco for 24 yrs until his retirement in 2001. After his retirement he found fulfillment in helping those in need when he worked at Personal Alternatives Funeral Services. Other loves he enjoyed in life were classic cars, collecting watches and pens, Star Trek, channel surfing and cooking.

Nilso was a quiet and reserved man of Faith who always saw the good in everyone. He and his family were active members of the Catholic Church in Trail and the community. He recently extended his faith to include the Alliance Church where he was very active in the Grief Share Program. Nilso was always reaching out to others and this continued after his stroke where he was very active with the Stroke Recovery Group.

Nilso was always good for a firm handshake and a slap on the back or a big bear hug asking how you are doing with a big smile on his face! He will be deeply missed.

A private viewing will be held Thursday, January 26, for family, and a Funeral Service will be held in the Trail Alliance Church on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11:00 am, with Pastor Andrew Martens Officiating. Burial will take place following the Funeral Service at Mountain View Cemetery. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Nilso’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at 4 - 1551 Sutherland Avenue,
