Nora Margaret Catalano passed away peacefully at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital on February 12, 2014.

Nora was born on November 3, 1935 in Creston, BC where she resided until the family moved to Nelson. She lived in Nelson until 1952 when she moved to Trail to be with her true love Joe.

Mom will always be remembered for her love of her family. She displayed this by playing piano for her grandkids and making up songs and plays. She was an incredible seamstress and cook. She was a great baker that made sure she always had some tasty treats waiting on the kitchen counter, just in case.

She loved Jeopardy, Trailer Park Boys, Tundra and Mother Goose and Grimm comic strips. She loved the Beatles with Hey Jude being her favorite tune. She had a wickedly warped sense of humour combined with a very accurate memory. She was always invited to class reunions for which she was noted for her story telling. This led to her lunches with Dad’s 1952 grad class ladies. She kept up with her Norwegian roots that led to some great stories.

Another of her favorite pastimes was to sit on the front porch and chat with neighbours passing by. She had a great group of old and new neighbours that she kept in contact. Ultimately, she loved spending time with family at Deep Lake “wharfaging” so she could keep an eye on the entire goings on.

Mom was a member of the sisters of the Cristoforo Colombo Lodge for over 40 years and always had a great time at meetings and events.

In October of 2013 she lost Joe to Alzheimer’s. She was also predeceased by her parents, her two sisters Inger and Kari, her brother Walter and her brother-in-law Sev Catalano.

She is survived by her daughters Toni (Ray) Kushner, Teri (Henry) Del Bucchia, her son Chris Catalano; grandchildren Dina (Jason), Andrew (Helen), Danny, Hanna, Emma and great granddaughter Sophia: sister-in-law Rose (Ray) Civitarese, Tommy Catalano and numerous nieces and nephews.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Nora’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at 4 - 1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 9M9 or the Trail Branch of the SPCA at 7700 Highway 3B, Trail, BC, V1R 2L9.

A celebration of Nora’s life will be held at a later date. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
