October 7, 1933 - February 19, 2021
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our precious Mother, Nonna and Zia, Olimpia McNaughton who passed away in Calgary on February 19, 2021 with her family by her side, caring for her every step of the way.
Olimpia was born in San Quirino, Udine, Italy on October 7, 1933 to Maria and Giovanni DePellegrin. She came to Canada to join her father at the age of 9 months with her mother, brother Angelo and sister Gina. Younger brother Bob was born shortly after.
Oly was predeceased by her husband Peter in 2004, brother Angelo DePellegrin and sister Gina Bortolussi. She is survived by her brother Bob DePellegrin (Lydia).
Olimpia will be greatly missed by her three daughters who absolutely adored her: Maria (Blair Shettler) Dana (Tom Lexovsky) and Lea McNaughton as well as 7 grandchildren who were her pride and joy: Mia (Christopher), Carli, Gio, Alexander, Vincent, Matthew, Kristen and her great-grandson Walker, along with numerous nieces and nephews who were never far from her thoughts.
Oly spent many years volunteering as a physical education teacher at St. Michael's School prior to opening Rainbow Nursery School where she was able to do what she loved most, teach and nurture children.
When Peter got sick, they temporarily moved to the BC Cancer Lodge in Vancouver. Olimpia soon found herself taking charge as she always did, working the front desk, organizing games, movie nights, sing-a-longs and providing restaurant recommendations and Bus Route information trying to make everyone feel at ease, always with a smile on her face and that twinkle in her eye.
Oly will be lovingly remembered by her extended family and dearest friends. She and Peter loved spending time with everyone at family get-togethers, weddings and those late night card games and sauerkraut dinners.
Due to Covid restrictions a funeral will not be held at this time. In honour of Olimpia, donations may be made to ... Kid Sport of Greater Trail at 1875 Columbia Ave, Trail, BC V1R 4T8 Kidsportcanada.ca or BC Cancer Foundation in Olimpia's name.
