Abenante: Olindo (Oly) of Trail passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on January 5, 2011. He was born August 30, 1927 in Bocchigliero, Italy.

Oly worked at Cominco and at the Smelter Pub for many years. He was a longtime member of the Colombo Lodge. Oly enjoyed every moment of his 25 years of retirement and was well known for wearing shorts year round at Christina Lake. . His greatest passions were his family, friends and his garden, especially his hot peppers. Oly loved being with people and some of his hobbies included walking, biking, fishing, cutting firewood, dancing, playing his guitar, and wine and sausage making. He was proud to be a Nonno and loved all of his grand and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife Rosa of 53 years, children Danny, Teresa (Gary), Diane, and John (Jeanine), grandchildren Kari (Jason), Jill (Zach), Jason (Nikki), Melissa (Abe), Danielle (Adam), Thomas (Emma), Braeden (Tiane), Brandon, Dillon and Shaelynn, great-grandchildren Keagan and Addyson, sisters Serafina, Rosina, Maria and Graziella, and brother Luigi, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Oly was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Vincenzo, Saverio, and Guiseppe.

Father Don Wilson will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at a later date. Al Grywacheski of Personal Alternative Funeral Services “Carberry’s Chapel” is entrusted with arrangements.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Oly’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 908 Rossland Avenue, Trail, BC V1R 3N6.
