Patricia Tatangelo (nee Smithers)

June 7, 2018

December 15, 1945 - June 7, 2018
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Tatangelo (Smithers) who passed away suddenly in the arms of her husband Joey on June 7, 2018 in Kelowna, BC. Pat was predeceased by her parents, Kay and Buster Smithers.

Pat leaves behind her husband, Joe, her daughter, Leanne (Peter) and son Rick (Jolie) along with their sons, Buster and Griffin. Pat also had 3 sisters, Marguerite Rotvold, Carol Lowrie and Robbie Fielding, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will all miss her very much.

Pat was born on December 15, 1945 in Vernon, BC, and shortly after moved to Oliver. She graduated from Oliver Secondary School, and moved to Trail when she was 19. She met Joe, and they fell in love, were engaged, and were married within 7 months. First Leanne, then Rick arrived, and once the kids were in school Pat started working as a teaching assistant. She was an active member of CUPE local 1285, and served on the Executive. After Pat and Joe retired, they moved to Christina Lake and enjoyed winters in Mexico and Arizona.

Pat loved children, and children loved Pat. She had a way with them that was indescribable. She was incredibly proud to be a Nonni to her grandsons, Buster and Griffin. She was an artist, sewer, and had a passion for quilting. She loved crafts, including beading and creating with shells. Pat was an avid gardener, and won many ribbons at the Rock Creek Fall Fair for her flowers and crafts.

In Trail, Pat was a member of the Catholic Women's League, Area Coordinator for Block Parents, and was a Snowy Owl, Tawny Owl and Brown Owl for many young girls in the Girl Guide Community, In Grand Forks, she was very involved with Legion Branch 59, volunteered at Boundary Lodge, and was always available to lend a hand to anyone who asked for her help. She had the patience of a saint, and was one of the most giving and generous people around.

Many thanks to Dr. Carroll in Christina Lake, and all the people at the Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Cancer Centre in Kelowna.

A memorial service will be held for Pat at the Grand Forks Legion on July 28 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's name to Boundary Lodge in Grand Forks are gratefully appreciated.
